Hi, this page is intended for family to keep
up with me, a place for me to host information on my latest work and
even some professional information such as my resume. Any non statistical
comments on the webpage are my thoughts and therefore subject to possibly
being entirely false as anyone else's thoughts are. With that in mind
try to keep your mind open when reading my thoughts and if you can't
don't complain to me about it.
Comments a plenty:

Holy cow its been forever since I updated! Ok, I suppose a run
down of these last couple months is in order.
Job: I got me a job! The job I mentioned the interview for I got,
it is a programming internship at Big Huge Games. First off the place
is everything I imagined a kick ass game company would be. All the
people are fun to be with, the atmosphere fits my personality perfectly
and the work is the exact kind of thing I love doing. Currently it
is only an internship which basically means they get to test me out
first but I get to do a bunch of cool stuff so I dont mind. I am currently
hoping, and it looks promising that I may be offered a full time job
there as I could use some health insurance soon and a better desk
=)
FFXI: I have gotten to level 52! The job has really slowed down my
progress but the game continues to be a ton of fun. I have worked
up some smithing, and cooking skills to help me make money but currently
my main source of income is mining. I now have over a half mil in
equipment and am working to have a lot more for some future purchases.
Other games: I have recently bought Crimson Skies, Beyond Good and
Evil, and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. All are awesome games,
I would recommend them to anyone. I purchased all three for my XBox
as I am trying to beef up my game collection for it, however my new
playstation is falling behind in games. Just about every game I want
to buy that is out on both systems I will buy for XBox, does anyone
have some playstation 2 only games they would recommend?
Gamedev articles:
Me and a member of my team got some articles up on GameDev.net! Mine
was on my random river generation and Jason's
was on getting a model system setup in Direct X with the .X format.
Both of these articles brought substantial traffic to our www.tsbgames.com
webpage nearly doubling the traffic it had since it had been up in
only one weeks time. Check out hte articles I think it was pretty
cool, mine had actually gone up the week before GDC, sweet!
GDC:
Lastly I had the opportunity to go to GDC again, it was a blast and
I enjoyed it a lot. This time around I was in a better position to
learn as having already gotten my fill of basics from Full Sail so
I made sure to purchase a more expensive pass that allowed me to go
into a lot more sessions than last year. I also had the advantage
of a lot of people from work going also so I got to hang out with
them on a social level I had not done before and got a couploe nice
meals and drinks paid for to boot =)
This site:
Knowing me I will probably continue to be lazy and occupied with work
and games 24/7 but its in desperate need of a redisgn to help fix
Some issues it has. Someday I hope to do this.... someday =)

Well I think I beat the last delay between posts by going almost
three months between updates. For those of you who just read this
site you may think that I got the job I was hoping for, for those
of you who actually know me you will know it is because of the MMO
that I decided to try. I come to you today with information about
both as well as another visit to the local IGDA chapter. Lets play
some catch up....
Holidays: I had a wonderful Christmas in Illinois with my moms family,
it was good to see everyone and there were lots of presents to be
given and received. Not to mention the tons of great food was excellent.
We went to downtown after Christmas for some limited shopping and
lunch. For New Years I spent the night at the Renaissance Hotel in
downtown Baltimore, as some of you know my step father John is the
General Manager of the hotel and he treated us to a wonderful evening
there. We had dinner at Windows a restaurant there that had the best
duck I've ever had and that was just the appetizer. For the main course
I had surf and turf, all I have to say is crab stuffed lobster tail
is an awesome idea.
MMO Madness: The MMO I decided to "research" was Final
Fantasy XI, SquareEnix's first MMO I know of but certainly not their
first Final Fantasy game did a tremendous job. The game keeps you
involved, you never run out of something to do and your options still
stay completely open. The game has consumed most of my life lately
due to me having way to much free time, I have started going to bed
at wee hours of the morning and waking up past noon. MMO + unemployed
+ hardcore gamer + Final Fantasy world is quite possibly a recipe
for a gaming addiction if I've ever seen one =)
Job: In effort to help wean myself off of this gamer enlightenment
of mine I am still searching for a job, today I was lucky enough to
score an interview I think went well. I still have no doubts that
once i get into a game studio I will impress them, I just have to
get in a door first. I see the light, I hope I'm almost there =) In
the end though getting into the industry and proving myself in it
will be worth any wait I go through.
IGDA Meeting: The last meeting was today a pretty interesting one
because a lot of people showed up. We had some interesting discussions
and there were some people looking for talent too. It was nice to
socialize especially since I got to see a friend of mine from Full
Sail there, Jeremy. It was nice to catch up and I look forward to
seeing him again when we go to GDC. Me, Keith, Jason, Erik and Jeremy
at the very least will be visiting GDC together this year again. It
should be fun, we got better passes and a closer hotel (actually Jeremy
had both these last year) I am looking forward to it.

Ok, so it has been a very, very long time since I updated. Over
a month now! A couple things to update on... First I have been hard
at work on my job search. I have had a couple good leads, and am working
on getting into a company nearby that I am very interested in. It
seems I have some competition as they have a couple impressive resumes
they are looking at. Unless I missed my guess two of them are my friends.
They are talented people who have a very similar education background
to myself since we all went to Full Sail. I have confidence in myself
though, I think I have a real shot here. Otherwise I have been keeping
my eyes open, there are other jobs I will be applying for soon. They
too are interesting jobs, they just would be my second pick so they
have been on the back burner lately.
In addition to the job hunt I have been doing some research. Some
of this includes games, there have been a few new ones out I bought
and played. Additionally I am starting a pay monthly MMO. I haven't
decided which yet but seeing as how big a gamer I am and some of the
jobs I have been looking at include MMOs I really want to see what
it is all about. I think I will like them a lot, I have just resisted
the temptation before because of the money. I have also been reading,
I picked myself up two books called "Effective C++" and
"Design Patterns." Both seem to be very good books and came
highly recommended. I am almost done with the first and getting into
the second.
I recently attended Maryland's local IGDA chapter as well. It is
actually one for the DC and Vicinity. The meeting I attended was a
social one where people met up and played video games at a lan center.
It was the first time I had been to a lan center and to the local
IDGA chapter so it was interesting. I had a lot of fun playing Quake
III as it has been so long. The conversation was also interesting,
a lot of good people in that group.

The new site is up! But of course you already knew that, this is it.
Anyways, my plans are to give the site a new design, I have grown
tired of this one. Unfortunately for me my job search has me busy
and I probably will not have the time to make a new site design any
time soon. Of course once I find a job there will be moving and working
involved so who knows when a new design will get done.
Anyways, I just finished my move back to Maryland. The trip itself
was nice, me and my mom drove nine hours the first day and five hours
the second day making it a fairly short feeling drive. For those of
you that may not have heard, I recently graduated from Full Sail where
I have been studying this past year. While I was there I made quite
a few friends, all of which I will miss now that I have moved back.
The demo has been up for download for a little while now, it can
be found on ww.tsbgames.com. I understand that some of you are not
into computer games or computers as much as me and may not understand
the System Requirements that accompany the download. For those of
you who will be at my small graduation party in Illinois next weekend
I will be showing the game there on my laptop, I can explain the requirements
there if you wish. If you will not be attending feel free to send
me an email.
Speaking of email, with the launch of the new site comes a new email,
dave@dclyde.com is my new email although I will be checking the old
one (dclyde@ameinc.com) for quite some time to make the transition
easier.
Hopefully I will be getting some new pictures up the in the pictures
section. I have some pictures from graduation as well as presentation
for those of you who have not seen what the spiffy Liege shirts
look like.
9-3-03
Ok, ok so I owe an update and I apologize. The thing is I am trying
to launch the www.tsbgames.com and www.dclyde.com. TSBGames.com launched
fine but for some reason no one can see DClyde.com This is a real
bummer as I wanted to update all of the pages on this site with redirects
on that site, and update that site with the new info. Unfortunately
it isn't working yet so I will spend the time to update this site.
Full Sail is done, I graduate Friday, and the final presentation happened
a week ago today. The presentation was awesome. My dad got the team
professional looking black button up collared shirts that made the
team look all that much better when presenting. There will be a picture
of the team up soon on TSBGames.com. The game looks great, I couldn't
of asked for anything better during my time here. It was all possible
because of my team too. Our getting together and becoming good friends
and being excited about this project since November really helped
us get to it when we started officially three months ago. Although
not in what I would like to call its final Demo stages Liege has made
it to a very playable state. We have to fix some things that we just
kind of rigged for the presentation before we put it up for download
but it will be available soon.
We also have to compress the music as well. Anywho, I have been playing
lots of games since then. Me and my team went out to Best Buy the
next day and collectively spent over $500 in games. I myself a good
portion of that bought Soul Caliber 2, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne,
Never Winternights: Shadows of Undertide, and Operation Flashpoint
Game of the year addition. I have been playing all of these, plus
some Rise of Nations, Soldier of Fortune 2, and of course... some
Liege =)
As far as the site I haven't had much time to update it with all the
games and the other sites I am trying to get up and running. However,
I encourage you to check out the Final Project section for an update
as well as www.TSBGames.com
8-15-03
Ok, well its 4:40 in the morning and my sleep schedule is shattered
as usual. I have been hard at work every waking moment on my project.
I spent the time this morning to update information about final project,
this served a couple different purposes. For one I needed a break,
my brian is flying through several strains of logic and as I implement
them I keep thinking of the ones I just did, I keep thinking of ways
to improve them or more importantly consider something I had not considered.
Ultimately this leads to about 6 different trains of thought while
working and I just needed to wind down. Secondly I am sending out
emails this week to different game companies with my resume. I have
found what seem like some really great companies that match the atmosphere
I am looking for. Some of my friends call me picky but one of my most
important goals in going into game design was to do something I enjoy,
I feel very strongly that you cannot enjoy what you do if you don't
enjoy the company you work for. It is because of this that I have
been very careful to pick out the companies I feel would be the most
fun to work for, and I wanted to have the information on the final
project page mostly up to date. The last and hopefully obvious reason
I updated the page is to keep everyone that already reads my webpage
up to date on what is happening. Check back very soon for some even
better screen shots, I have been trying hard to keep them all up to
date. Final project is over with in a week and a half! I can already
feel the excitement and anxiety, 200-300 audience members will be
watching me and my team give a presentation on my game, we aim to
impress and I think we will make our mark. And something for everyone
to fathom, merely because I would never have imagined it before. Our
demo currently has 17,300 lines of code and 11,000 lines of commenting
in about 120 files. All this in 2 pure coding months (although some
of it is from before) and it doesn't even account for our mistakes
and our first attempts. I throughout all the changes the map was written
at least three times over and it accounts for 2,600 of the lines of
code. I don't think there will be another update until after presentation,
I will make sure to send people an email after I update the website
at that time, I will have the demo up for download as well as the
source for anyone who requests it.
Ohhh! I almost forgot! The webpage will be moving soon, I have registered
the domains www.dclyde.com and www.tsbgames.com to host this site
as well as one for the demo. As soon as the host finishes setting
them up I will at least copy the site in its current incarnation over
to the new account. I will place redirects on this page as well.
7-23-03
Its when already?!?!?! I don't know where the time is going but this
project is way up off the ground and taking off. We now have units
on the screen that we have put on the map. We have unit formations
running, we have a basic GUI minus the actual Interaction. Of course
I broke the terrain trying to optimize it but I will figure out what
I broke eventually. I cant believe the time though, alpha is only
in 2 weeks it is scary. Anywho so I updated my resume (put it into
pdf) and links today. I will update images for final project page
as well.
7-12-03
Final project rocks, this game is going to turn out good I think,
we have five people working on assets that we don't have to share
with the class! Thats in addition to the few interns we are sharing
with the class. My team is cranking out work like no other myself
included, it is truly good stuff. I have added updates all over the
site, the resume is/will be changing as well as writing some cover
letters, The projects page will be updated yet again and the final
project portion already has been quite a bit. Grades and class descriptions
have also been updated. But still expect another major update soon
with nearing completion (within the scope of my project) screen shots
of my terrain as well as some models for the game soon. Oye thats
alot, I just hope I find the time to get it on here.
5 -11-03
Yay, my sleep schedule is more normal and I am working on the
food thing. I am still on one meal a day most days though =/ Anywho
I updated tons of stuff today! I reorganized all my projects. I updated
the info for some of them, added another project, and added some screenshots
of the Megaman game. I also updated my grades with AI. I added something
to the thoughts page. Updated my links, and finally put the GDC pictures
in the picture page if you have not seen them already. Hopefully
I can update my IMG grade soon if they get posted soon.
Internet Acronyms and Smileys Comment
As you may notice throughout the webpage I have several little
things that may look like I randomly spasmed the keyboard. These things
are smileys and Acronyms. The following are some of my common smileys
which dont necessarily match the ones you may be use to with an instant
messenger.
=P, =Þ - Silly Face with tounge sticking out
=D, =) - Smilling faces.
=/, =( - Frustrated and sad faces.
Spelling and Grammar Disclaimer:
Although not a terrible speller, I am subject
to a lot of typos and not carefully thinking how a word is spelled.
Add to that that I do have terrible grammar and you have a site with
quite a few bumps in the spelling and grammar department. I have been
trying to run the files through a grammar checker manually (Dreamweaver
doesn't seem to have a grammar checker) but I have had lots of school
taking up quite a bit of my time.
